Joseph N. Cox

Mr. Joseph N. Cox of Port Jervis passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family and dearest friend Judy. He was 59.   He fought a valiant battle of Esophageal Cancer.

He was born January 21, 1958 in Aschaffenburg, Germany the son of the late Joseph N. Cox, Sr. and the late Renate Johanna Augustin Cox.

Joe married the love of his life, Erika Klostermeier on April 5, 1986 at the parish of the Immaculate Conception St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Port Jervis where he was a lifelong congregant.

He retired from the Port Jervis City School District in February 2017.

Joseph was an Alumnus of the Pennsylvania College of Technology at Williamsport.  He was a 3rd Degree Knight and a member of the Knights of Columbus Local 471 Monsignor Sexton Council.  He was a member of the Port Jervis Fire Department Neversink Engine Co. #1.  He was an assistant Cub Scout Den Leader and a member of the Avalanche Ski Club.  He was a past Port Jervis Tri-State Area Youth Soccer Coach and Port Jervis Little League Coach, when he wasn’t getting into some kind of mischief with his own children.  Joe was a terrific husband and father who loved to simply spend time with his Sons (who were more like brothers).   If he and his boys were not fishing in Cahoonzie or skiing the slopes, he would always find an adventure for the three of them to go on.  He also cherished the short time he spent with his grandson, “Baby Will”.

Joe had a motto dear to his heart, “To forgive and love one and other.”  Joe was also known for giving of himself to anyone in need.”
