Obituary of Richard Schindler
Mr. Richard W. Schindler of Port Jervis and a long time resident of the area died Saturday, April 29, 2017 at St. Joseph's Place in Port Jervis. He was 77.
He was born September 9, 1939 in New York, NY the son of the late Richard A. Schindler and the late Frieda Wilkening Schindler.
Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines from 1957-1960.
He married Lillian Conklin on March 6, 1959 in Camp Lajune, North Carolina and they were married for 51 years prior to her death on November 2, 2010.
Richard worked as a Machinist for 27 years at High Point Fasteners in Montague, NJ.
A family statement read: Dad was a larger than life personality. He could be seen riding through town in his red Seabring convertible, top down and 60’s music playing.
An eclectic collector and Ebay enthusiast his walls were adorned with Currier & Ives, Norman Rockwell, Winslow Homer and Audubon Prints.
Although he struggled for years with COPD and his activities lessened he looked forward to his yearly trip to Lake George for his birthday. He never lost his zest for life and could be seen at the car show each month with his best friends John “Butch” & Carol DeGeorge.
His cat Sammy was his constant companion and gave him comfort throughout his illness

Sister: Marilyn Loader Long Island, NY
Sister: Elizabeth Scarlatta & her husband Richard Cape Cod, MA
Also several nieces and nephews
Best friends: John “Butch” & Carol DeGeorge Montague, NJ
Predeceased Granddaughter: Syndey L. Wharton
Predeceased brother: Louis Robert "Bobby" Schindler
Predeceased sister: June Attalenti
Predeceased sons-in-law: Daniel Marra & Carmine Mosca
A memorial visitation will be at Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc. 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 10:00 am – 12:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 12:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Patt Kauffman officiating.
A burial of cremains will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY.
