Obituary of George Ates
Mr. George Thomas Ates of Port Jervis, NY died Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown. He was 70.
He was born January 17, 1947 in New Orleans, LA the son of the late John Ates and the late Emma Alfreda Stevens Ates.
George proudly served his country in U.S. Army First Infantry Division during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Joseph C. Hassett VFW Post #686, Kingston, NY.
He worked as a School Bus Driver in the Greenwich CT School District.
George married Barbara J. Thorp on July 3, 2012 in Port Jervis, NY.
A family statement read: A loving, proud, amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was an Avid fisherman, wonderful story teller who served his country honorably in troubled times. You will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege to meet you and call you friend.

Funeral services will be held at Friday, September 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM from Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis.
Burial with Military Honors will be at the Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Goshen, NY.
