Daniel D. Tompkins

 

Mr. Daniel D. Tompkins, III of Sparrowbush, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2020 at home in Sparrowbush, NY.  He was 90.

 

He was born January 28, 1930 in Queens, NY the son of the late Daniel D. Tompkins, II and the late Louise  Gellrich Tompkins.

Daniel proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a graduate of Cornell University where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.  He also earned a second Bachelor's Degree from Michigan State University. 

 

Daniel married Ruth M. Carman on February 14, 1953 in Freeport, NY and they were married for 65 years prior to her death on February 19, 2018.

 

He worked for the NYS Dept of Parks & Recreation and was the Director of the Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River, NY.

Daughter:        Cindy Bright & her husband Michael                          Sparrowbush, NY

13 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren

Daniel was predeceased by his granddaughter Amanda Dobos

his Sister Mary Lou Gray and his son-in-law Peter Glaser.

 

A visitation will be held at Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc. 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis on Monday, December 21, 2020 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM with Pastor Herb Jacobson officiating. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be limited occupancy and we ask you to please adhere to the state regulations regarding face masks and social distancing.

 

A burial of cremains will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY
