Mr. Edward Richard Smith of Port Jervis, NY and a long time resident of Port Jervis died Friday, June 4, 2021 at Delaware Valley Skilled Nursing And Rehabilitation Center, Matamoras, PA. He was 95.
He was born December 22, 1925 in New York City, NY the son of the late Edward Smith and the late Gertrude Quinn Smith.
Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He also was on the Honor Flight from Newburgh, NY to Washington, DC.
Ed along with his son Kenneth owned and operated the successful automobile dealership known as Ed Smith Auto Mall, Chevrolet/Oldsmobile, Chrysler/Dodge & Rent A Wreck auto rental company in Port Jervis for over 33 years. Ed’s most rewarding events were being a Scout Master at St. Pius School in Scarsdale, NY and speaking at Sales Management Films for General Motors that were made into three languages.
During Ed’s business career, he was on the boards of Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce, the Port Jervis Country Club, the Port Jervis Rotary Club and the Chevrolet Advisory Board. In addition to the United Way Fund, Ed & his son Ken sponsored the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce and United Way Fund Golf Outing for 14 years.
Ed was still golfing at the age of 92 and scored a Hole in One at the age of 92.

Grandson: Nicholas Smith and his wife Nicole Smith of Swyoresville, PA and their two children Ed’s Great-Grandchildren, Alivia and Zoey.
He was predeceased by 2 sons; Edward Smith and Donald Smith
There will be no visitation and funeral services will be held private at the convenience of the family with a celebration of life at a later date.
