Stephen Lee DeWitt

Mr. Stephen Lee DeWitt Jr.

Cuddebackville, NY

Mr. Stephen Lee DeWitt Jr., of Cuddebackville, NY, died Sunday, November 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and three beautiful daughters.  He was 47.

He was born June 24, 1974 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Stephen Lee and the late Betty-Lou DeWitt.

Stephen was the owner and operator of Econo Tree Services in Cuddebackville, NY.  He was on the construction detail for the Local 731 during 9/11 for nine months.  He volunteered his time for the Mt Carmel Society in Port Jervis along with St. Mary’s Church and cemetery in Port Jervis.  He helped people throughout the community with various tree jobs and some other unconventional services with his bucket lift. If he was driving down the road and saw the fire department or police department sign with a bulb out, he would stop and change the bulb without anyone ever knowing he did it.  He helped the Huguenot Fire Department get a cat out of a tree and in the process took the entire tree down for the safety of the cat.

Steve was above and beyond generous.  He heavily donated to the Dare Program in the Port Jervis School District and paid for the picture packages at the HBE school and the Port Jervis Middle School for the families that could not afford to purchase school pictures.  He would donate pallets of water to fire departments and police departments around the county, just because he wanted to.  Steve would frequently donate food and financial resources to homeless shelters and to the Honor Shelter.

Above all, Steve loved his wife, his three daughters, his dogs and life itself.  It was never a dull moment with Steve, he lived life to the fullest and made sure you did as well when you were with him.  He will be deeply missed.
