Obituary of William A. Alger

Mr. William "Bill" A. Alger of Godeffroy, NY and lifetime resident of the area died Tuesday, April 19th at Orange Regional Medical Center Horton Campus. He was 71. He was born February 24, 1934 in Manhattan, NY the son of the late Albert and the late Emma VonHoff Alger. At the Age of 14 William moved to this area with his family. At the age of 16 he went to work at the former Port Jervis Bakery until he went into the service from 1953 to 1955. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Later he worked at the Reynold's Metal in Middletown for almost 15 years. William went on to work for Sorrento Cheese in Goshen were he later retired from. A family statement read: "He was an avid Pigeon Fancier all of his life." Main St., Port Jervis, Thursday, April 21st 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm Funeral services will be Friday, April 22nd at 10:00 AM from Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis with Rev. Elizabeth Diver of the St. Peters Lutheran Church, Port Jervis officiating. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Middletown, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Cuddlebackville Fire Department, First Responders, Cuddebackville, NY 12729 Funeral arrangements are by the GRAY-PARKER FUNERAL HOME, 100 E.
