Obituary of John Shannon
Mr. John P. “Jack” Shannon, Sr. of Port Jervis, NY passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY. He was 80.
He was born January 19, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late William M. Shannon and the late Ann M. Burke Shannon.
Jack married Shirley Hawkins on August 9, 1969 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Port Jervis, NY.
He worked as a Tool & Die Maker for A & W Products, Port Jervis, NY. John was an active member of Port Jervis Fire Engine No. 1, Port Jervis Fire Police, the Mamakating Hunting Club, and St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Matamoras, PA. He also served on the Orange County Fire Advisory Board.
A Family Statement Read: Jack was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing, or just to take a walk. Jack loved serving his community as a volunteer fireman. He was Grand Marshall in the Port Jervis Fireman’s Parade in 2015. Jack had many friends and after he retired would visit or check on them daily. He will be sorely missed by his companions Molly and Fatty.

Friends may call at Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., 100 E. Main Street, Port Jervis, NY on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and from 7:00pm – 9:00pm.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 with a Prayer Service at 9:15 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, 307 Avenue F, Matamoras, PA 18336 with Rev. Alfred Vito officiating.
Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY.
