Obituary of Samuel Levinson

Dr. Samuel Levinson, Ph.D. of San Diego, CA & formerly of Port Jervis, NY a retired U.S. Air Force Clinical Psychologist died peacefully on October 11, 2018 in San Diego, CA.  He was 89 years old.

Sam was born on June 1, 1929 in Port Jervis, NY the son of the late David Levinson and Gittle Nudel Levinson.  He was a lifetime member of Temple Beth El in Port Jervis.

Dr. Levinson retired in 1977, after 26 years in the US Air Force, a Colonel serving as the Chief for Clinical Psychology of the US Air Force Medical Service Corps. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans and the American Legion.  In private practice until he moved to San Diego in 2012, Dr. Levinson retained membership in the American Psychological Association as well as state psychological associations.

Sam married Joan Marie Plotkin 58 years ago in New Orleans, LA on March 26, 1960.  They had a daughter, Ruth Ellen and a son Daniel Saul.  Sam was predeceased by his daughter Ruth, and her husband Kenneth Hook.  He was also predeceased by his parents, David and Gittle, his brother Harry Levinson, and his sister Millie Littman.

Sam is survived by his wife Joan, his son Daniel and wife Leigh, grandson David and granddaughter Kennedy, along with several nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held at Beth-El Cemetery, 197 North Orange St., Port Jervis, NY on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 10:00 am
