Obituary of John D. Eylers

Mr. John D. Eylers of Westbrookville, NY and a longtime resident of the area died September 30, 2019 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY.  He was 81.

He was born March 11, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY.

John married Antje Unger 57years ago on April 5, 1962 in Brooklyn, NY

He worked for the NYS Dept. of Corrections at Eastern Correctional Facility in Napanoch, NY.

John was a member of Roosa - Fleming V.F.W. Post No. 161 Port Jervis & Orange County Shields and the Fraternal Order of Police.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and in the U.S. Army serving in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

A family statement read: He was a very loving husband, Father and grandfather. Affectionately known as Opa.

His loving wife, Antje Eylers at home

His son, Eric Eylers at home

2 daughters:  Barbara Mariner & her husband Kenny of Bloomingburg, NY; and Karen Wells & her husband Jim of Westbrookville, NY    

His sister, Adele Sidebottom & her husband Phil of England

2 Granddaughters: Meghan Walters and Ashely Wells

Also several nieces & nephews

He was predeceased by his son, Peter Eylers

Visitation will be held at Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc. 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm and also on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 8:00am – 9:00am

A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 9:00 AM at Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis with Pastor Jose Rodriguez of the Goodwill Church in Port Jervis officiating

Burial with Military Honors will be at the Westbrookville Cemetery, Westbrookville, NY.
