Mr. Joseph Francis Welsh Jr. of Port Jervis, NY, died Monday, September 21, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was 85.

He was born March 3, 1935 in Flushing, NY the son of the late Joseph Francis Welsh, Sr. and the late Rosina Quinn Welsh.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Joe married his beloved wife June Hochbrueckner on October 19, 1957 in Seaford, Long Island, NY.

Joe was a dedicated Police Officer in NYPD for 20 years until his retirement in 1982.  After retirement, he worked as Head of Security for Shoram Nuclear Power Plant for 15 years.

He was involved with several organizations and memberships throughout his life.  Joseph was a current member of St. Thomas R.C. Church in Sandyston (Hainesville), NJ where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was the Past Grand Knight and the Faithful Navigator in Palatka, FL.  He was a past member of the Emerald Society in NYC, NY. 

A family statement read: “Joe was a man of strong character and had even stronger family values. As an avid fisherman he enjoyed his boats and a cold beer. He was also a handyman creating things from furniture to a swimming pool. For relaxation Joe played golf and with his model train setup. He was well loved and will be sorely missed.

                        Eileen Knapp and her husband Lawrence of       Port Jervis, NY

                        Kathleen Calef of E. Northport, NY

                        Alison Welsh and her companion William Sharpe of Medford, NY

1 son:               Joseph Francis Welsh III and his wife Jennifer of Northport, NY

1 Brother:          Kenneth Welsh of Dallas, TX

2 sisters in law: Roberta Schlegel of Middle Island, NY and Kathleen Hochbrueckner of Boca Raton, FL

2 Brothers in Law: Michael Teres of Rochester, NY

                        John Gallagher of Miller Place, NY

8 Grandchildren: Nicholas Andersen and Michele Dennington, Shawn Welsh Sharpe, Heather Calef, Zachary Andersen, Callie Rose Teufert, Joseph Welsh, Riley Welsh and Samuel Welsh.

1 Great grandchild: Gavin Andersen

He was predeceased by his parents; 2 sisters, Rosemary Teres and Patricia Gallagher; 3 brothers in law, Neal Burgess, Frank Schlegel and Paul Hochbrueckner.

 

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY 12771 on Friday, September 25, 2020 from 2-4 & 6-8pm.

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2020 with a 9am prayer at the funeral home followed by a 10:30am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas R.C. Church, 210 Route 206, Sandyston (Hainesville), NJ with Rev. Wayne Varga officiating.

 

Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis, NY.
