86, beloved family matriarch, mother, grandmother, great grandmother
Mary Jo Brandon entered Heaven’s gates on May 4, 2021. She was 86 years young.
Mary Jo was born on July 14, 1934 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. She later moved to Elizabeth, then to Sayreville, Randolph, New Mexico and finally Montague, where she has resided for the last 20 years.
Mary Jo worked for the National Council On Alcoholism and was proud of her 47 years of sobriety. She was a Certified Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor at the Morris County Alcohol Recovery Center throughout the 1980’s and early 90’s.
A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Mary Jo was a great cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family gatherings. She was a talented artist and loved to paint. She loved animals and enjoyed feeding the birds and other wildlife that visited her home. She loved flowers, and enjoyed watching football and televised church from home every day in her later years. She always looked forward to her weekly visit from Deacon Wade to receive holy communion.
She is predeceased by her brother Sonny, daughter Kimberly and beloved German Shepard, Star.
She is survived by her brother Bobby; daughters Rochelle Thomas of Montague, Sheryl Nowell of Hopatcong and Danielle Matthews of Ponce de Leon, Florida; nephew Joey and niece Donna; 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and her dear cat, Junior.
Private cremation was held by Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis, New York. A small memorial for family and friends will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory can be made to ASPCA. The family wishes to thank those who loved and cared for her during her last days. She will be greatly missed.
