Obituary of Maria Batiuk

Mrs. Maria Batiuk of West Milford, NJ and formerly of Glen Spey, NY died peacefully at home with her children by her side on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 in West Milford, NJ.  She was 95.


She was born June 15, 1926 in Poborez, Ukraine, the daughter of the late Michael Gresko and the late Anastasia Goy Gresko.

Maria was married to the late John Batiuk for 60 years until his passing on September 13, 2005.


She was a member of the St. Volodymyr’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Glen Spey, NY and a longtime member of St. Volodymyr’s Church Choir.


A family statement read:  Our mom was a strong and dedicated wife and mother who took great pride in the Pyrohy (Pierogi) that she made for her family and friends.  As a World War II Labor Camp survivor in Germany, her life’s accomplishments and her strong work ethic were an inspiration to her family.  She had an infectious sense of humor and loved socializing and entertaining.


Surviving are:

Son: John Batiuk and his wife, Christina of San Francisco, CA.

4 daughters:  Mary Rotondi and her husband, Jack of Robbinsville, NJ; Olga Barry and her husband, Bob of West Milford, NJ; Irene Ardito of Lemoore, CA and Katherine McBrinn of Gardena, CA

Brother: Michael Gresko of Ukraine

Son-in-law: Edward Semienick of Glen Spey, NY

11 Grandchildren: Elayne, Natalie, Tom, Jessica, Rob, T.J., Shannon, David A., Matthew, Adam and Nicole

6 Great Grandchildren

Also several nieces and nephews

She was predeceased by: her daughter Stephanie Semienick; her grandson John Michael McBrinn and her grandson David J. Semienick. She was predeceased by 1 sister and 3 brothers in Ukraine.


Friends may visit at Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., 100 E. Main St. Port Jervis, NY 12771 on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Panachyda service will be Sunday, August 1, 2021 at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.


Funeral services will be on Monday, August 2, 2021 with a Liturgy Mass at 11:00 am in St. Volodymyr’s, 2104 County Route 41, Glen Spey, NY 12737 Ukranian Catholic Church with Rev. Yaroslav Kostyk officiating.


Burial will be at Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey, NY.
