Mr. Wellington “Welly” De Groat
Port Jervis, NY
Mr. Wellington “Welly” De Groat of Port Jervis, NY died Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Achieve Rehab & Nursing in Liberty, NY. He was 91.
He was born September 21, 1929 in Port Jervis, NY the son of the late Dennis De Groat and the late Catherine Hess DeGroat.
Welly was happily married to Carrie Misenhelder on March 29, 1964 in Port Jervis, NY.
He worked for many years on the Susquehanna Railroad doing different types of maintenance.
A family statement read: “Welly was a hard worker. He always had a job to do, from the moment he woke with the sun to the moment he lay his head to rest, Welly was out making the yard look its’ best. He loved to spend time landscaping the lawn, anyone’s yard really. Even at 89, he could still be seen mowing the grass for his niece. Welly also loved to tinker with different tools and machinery, his passion was taking equipment apart, his frustration was in putting them back together. Welly, we will miss seeing you hard at work around the house, but we know Heaven’s lawns will be looking their best now that you are there.”
His loving wife Carrie De Groat at home, 3 daughters; Ann De Groat of Port Jervis, NY, Caroline De Groat of Newburgh, NY, and Donna De Groat of Montgomery, NY, his brother Dennis De Groat, Jr. of Port Jervis, NY, his 2 sisters Dolores Finch of Port Jervis, NY
