Obituary of Joseph Paul Kearns
Mr. Joseph "Joe" Paul Kearns of Port Jervis, NY and a long time resident of the area died peacefully on Sunday, October 17. He was 77. He grew up in Moscow, PA, the sixth of seven children of the late Frank and the late Kathryn Donahue Kearns. Joe married Janet D. Hinderer 43 years ago on June 24, 1967 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Tenafly, NJ. He attended the University of Scranton, where he participated in ROTC and later served two years in the U.S. Army, followed by service in the Army Reserve through 1969. He graduated from the University of Scranton in 1955 and also held a graduate degree from Seton Hall University. Joe was a retired commercial banker and he also spent time as a Distributive Education Teacher for Orange Ulster BOCES in Goshen. He had a tireless love for his family, Notre Dame Football, and golf. He loved spending time as "Papa" to his four grandchildren. His presence was often quiet, but will never be forgotten. He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church Port Jervis. He will be terribly missed by and is survived by wife Janet of 43 years, at home; son Patrick Kearns and his wife Michele of London, UK; daughter Joan Dalrymple and her husband Doug of Ringwood, NJ; daughter Regina Wollin and her husband Matthew of Chicago, IL; brother William Kearns, of Juno Beach, FL; sister Joan Potter and her husband Lee of Madison Township, PA; 4 grandchildren Gavin, Madeleine, Douglas III, and Kathryn; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased Predeceased Brothers: Frank and Paul Kearns. Predeceased Sisters: Kathryn and Patricia. Predeceased Sister-In-Law: Rose Kearns Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2010 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main st., Port Jervis, NY Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 21, 2010 with a 9:15am Prayer at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Mary's R.C. Church, 46 Ball St., Port Jervis, NY with Father George La Grutta and Father Robert Maloney, s.x. concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA at approximately 12:15 pm.
