Obituary of Anita Meyn
Anita Meyn, 84, of Mohican Lake, Glen Spey, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 9. Awaiting her in heaven with open arms are her parents, Hermann and Anna Wreden, her four siblings and her loyal dog, Bello.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, George Meyn; loving children, Barbara Meyn Papadakis and Fred Meyn and his wife, Diana. "Oma" is also survived by five grandchildren, William (Emily) Meyn, Christopher (Joelle) Meyn, Michael (Hannah) Meyn, Stacy Papadakis, and Jason Papadakis; and one beautiful great grandchild, Lukas Meyn. She also has many family members and friends here in the United States and in Germany who love her and will miss her dearly. Anita immigrated with her husband, George, and daughter, Barbara, to the United States from Bad Bederkesa, Germany in 1954. Shortly after settling in Brooklyn, NY, they celebrated the birth of a baby boy, Fred. Through the years, they devoted themselves to their family and loved every moment they spent with their grandchildren and great grandchild.
Anita was a member of several clubs within the Plattduetsche Volksfest Vereen in Franklin Square, NY: Bederkesa'er Damen Zirkel, Brooklyn Schuetzen Damen, and Ladies' Society of the Plattdeutsche Home. She was also a member of the St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Shohola, PA and took great pleasure engaging in the church's many fundraisers. Anita was an amazing cook, an avid gardener and a talented crafter; and every year as we hang our little beaded angels and bells on the Christmas tree, we know her love continues to shine down on us. The family wishes to thank all those who supported them during Anita's brief illness through prayers, visits, and care, including the staff at Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis.
The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, September 13, from 2:00 to 4:00pm and from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Gray Parker Funeral Home, 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis, NY. A short service will be held on Friday, September 14 at 10:00 am at the funeral home, followed by burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, 127-15 Kew Gardens Road, Kew Gardens, NY at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Anita's memory to Lumberland Fire Department, PO Box 91, Glen Spey, NY 12737-6147.
